An eclectic but incredibly well-integrated blend of traditional death metal, melodeath, black metal, progressive, and even a bit of folk (with the added bonus of audible and tasty bass guitar). The album has a consistent, pulverizing momentum punctuated by the rare acoustic passage or catchy chorus/refrain. Overall an unbelievably mature first offering from an up-and-coming band to watch. When the production is bearable, Exocrine is probably the best tech death band in the world. This and Molten Giant are two of the best records in the genre. The last album had some real production defects that kicked me out (lawn sprinkler drum sound), but The Hybrid Suns is everything you could want in a tech death album.
